Here's something to warm you up - we're back!

This year's TitanCon will take place over the weekend of 12-14 September 2014 and will be held at the Wellington Park Hotel, Belfast. Everyone told us what a great venue the Wellie was last year so we are happy to be returning again in 2014.

The Wellie are offering special room rate deals to TitanCon 2014 attendees at the same prices as last year. The opportunity to stay in the hotel where the convention you are attending takes place can massively improve your experience at the con. The practicality of being able to return to your room quickly and easily at any time is a huge difference maker and with enough people staying here the entire hotel can become infused with the atmosphere of TitanCon making the whole experience that much more enjoyable for everyone. We hope you'll all be able to join us at the Wellie for TitanCon 2014.

Literature Night

We will be kicking things off on Friday evening with our popular Literature Night featuring readings from our author guests. This relaxed and informal gathering is the perfect opportunity to mingle with the other attendees, catch up with old friends or make some new ones. We'll also be offering a preview of our Art Show featuring incredible pieces of art by talented local and international artists available for purchase.

TitanCon 2014

The convention itself is on Saturday 13 September. Our doors open at 9.00 am and TitanCon runs till 6.30 pm with evening entertainment from 7.30 pm through till 1.00 am including our highly competitive Masquerade contest. We highly recommend sticking around till late for a rare chance to see some of the Game of Thrones cast members on the dance floor!

TitanCon 2014 programming will feature discussion panels, crafting workshops (including our always popular Dothraki Jewellery Workshop), photo sessions with the guests and of course a signing session. Photographs with our Game of Thrones guests cost £10 each. All TitanCon attendees are entitled to one free autograph from each guest. Additional signatures cost £5 each.

At this time we don't know which Game of Thrones cast and crew members will be available to attend TitanCon 2014. The majority of these guests will only be able to confirm their appearance in the last couple of weeks leading up to the event. Last year we were very lucky to have Isaac Hempstead-Wright (Bran Stark), Art Parkinson (Rickon Stark), Kristian Nairn (Hodor) and Thomas Brodie-Sangster (Jojen Reed) all confirm in the last week as being able to join us which led to an incredible panel on the Fall of House Stark. You never know who might show up on the day! We will announce confirmed guests as soon as we possibly can and we intend to have a few names to whet your appetite within the next few weeks.

TitanCon is not just a Game of Thrones convention, we also include fantasy and science-fiction authors, comic artists, gaming, art and much more. We will be joined by an incredible line up of authors and artists who will be discussing various interesting subjects and aspects of writing and creating literature and art. TitanCon is Northern Ireland's premiere event for speculative fiction and works of the imagination and therefore we will be showcasing the best of the homegrown talent from across the region.

TitanCon Coach Tour

It would not be TitanCon if we didn't close the weekend with the outstanding TitanCon Coach Tour visiting Game of Thrones filming locations around Northern Ireland. Tickets for the Coach Tour will go on sale around the end of May/start of June. We need to see season 4 of the show so that we can try and find some of those locations and plan them into our itinerary giving fans the most unique tour of it's kind. We can tell you that we will be returning to Clandeboye Estate for our traditional Hog Roast Feast and evening entertainment. The beautiful hall at Clandeboye was such a great venue that it was an easy decision to return again this year.

Sounds great! When can I buy tickets?

Tickets for TitanCon 2014 cost £15 and will go on sale at 12.00 midday (UK time) on Saturday 22 February 2014.

Your confirmation email will include booking codes for the special room rate at the Wellington Park Hotel, so please don't contact the hotel directly until after you have bought your ticket and received the confirmation email.

The wait is over and we can finally announce the details of our 2013 Coach tour. We apologise that this has taken a few weeks longer than we would have wanted but this has been a difficult tour to arrange with several different venues to negotiate with, some of which didn't work out in terms of time, money and practicality. But we're really pleased with the Game of Thrones filming locations we have lined up and a fantastic venue for our medieval feast. For those that preferred the atmosphere inside the great hall at Castle Ward to last year's marquee at Shane's Castle, we are pleased to say we have found a beautiful hall at Clandeboye Estate big enough to seat 150 people and we also offer spectacular entertainment with a fire dancing show by Ignition.

On Sunday 8 September 2013 we will be visiting:

Inch Abbey
The location where Robb was named King in the North. Following the heartbreaking events of the Red Wedding we'll be holding a special memorial service for the fallen king. Never forget.

River Quoile
The quay outside Riverrun where the funeral service for Hoster Tully was held. The Tully trout ornamentation is gone but the quay is still there in this beautiful riverside location.

Audley's Castle
We never made it out here on our 2011 tour so we're going back this year. This was the exterior location for The Twins and was also used as the Stark and Lannister war camps back in season one.

Whitespots Country Park ~ Windmill
One of the most recognisable locations from season three is the windmill where Bran and company took shelter while Jon Snow fought the wildlings outside.

Clandeboye Estate ~ Combat workhops
We are offering a selection of combat workshops including spear combat, sword combat, hand to hand fighting and fire eating and body burning - for those that dare to try.

Medieval feast
Our traditional Hog Roast will be served inside the beautiful Clandeboye Estate Courtyard Banqueting Hall. With seating for 150 people plus a separate bar area.

Fire Dancing
After the sun and our food goes down we'll be serving up spectacular entertainment in the courtyard with fire dancing by Ignition and our very own Mutha Hydra.

After Party
We offer drop off points at Belfast City Airport, Europa Bus Station before returning to the Wellington Park Hotel where the after party will continue long into the night.

We are pleased to (finally) announce that TitanCon 2013 is confirmed to take place on Saturday 7 September 2013 at the Wellington Park Hotel, Belfast. Yes, that's a new date and a new venue.

Why the change of date?

The last two year's TitanCon has been held on the 3rd weekend of September to coincide with Culture Night Belfast. Our main reason for changing the date is to avoid a clash with the Emmy Award Ceremony in Los Angeles. Last year several Game of Thrones guests that would otherwise have attended TitanCon could not because they were going to be in L.A. for the Emmys. We really can't compete with an event like that and we want to bring our members the best line up of guests we possibly can so we needed to make a change.

Back in January 2013 we announced that the date we were planning for was 14 September, but it turns out our new venue was already booked for the 14th, however it was available on the 7th. We realise that this date change means some people may not be able to attend on the 7th when they could have the 14th, but equally there will be other people that could not have made the 14th that can make the 7th. We hope there are more people out there in the latter group than the former, but if you are one of those that cannot attend we apologise and please understand that this change of date and venue was absolutely necessary to make TitanCon 2013 financially viable.

Why the change of venue?

The Europa Hotel has been a fantastic venue for us the last two years and we thank everyone at the Europa for their great hospitality. The Europa is the most prestigious and well located hotel in Belfast but that prestige comes at a price. Many of you will be aware that last year we were very concerned that we had made a loss, it turned out that we did in fact make a modest profit but that close call has forced us to re-evaluate our budget planning. We felt that the last two years we've had too much of our budget tied up in venue costs and we really wanted to put more into our guest budget. Therefore we began looking for a venue that would meet our needs and we are pleased to say we have found it.

The Wellington Park Hotel is located near Queen's University, about a mile south of the Europa, and offers excellent conference facilities with all of their meeting rooms located on the first floor of the hotel within close proximity of each other. So it's not just about the price, we feel like this will be a better venue because of the layout of the rooms. The main hall seats 350 people, a second room will seat 100 and there are numerous smaller rooms ideal for holding workshops, round tables, gaming, signing and photo sessions. The conference space also features a separate bar area so there won't be any noise distractions during panel discussions, and we can set up tables in the main corridor so dealers will be situated right in the heart of the convention.

Wellington Park has also offered us a great room rate which will allow TitanCon members to affordably stay in the same hotel as the convention. The opportunity to stay in the same hotel where the convention you are attending is taking place can massively improve your experience at the con. The practicality of being able to return to your room quickly and easily at any time is a huge difference maker and with enough people staying here the entire hotel can become infused with the atmosphere of TitanCon making the whole experience that much more enjoyable for everyone. Why the price increase?

Last year our membership prices ranged from £12 special offer for returning members to £20 on the door. This year we are increasing our membership price to £25 and that will be a fixed rate for everyone with no planned increases at a later date. You may be thinking to yourself, but if they have reduced the venue costs why put the prices up as well? Our reasons are two-fold.

Firstly this is to again ensure our financial viability. The last two year's we have received a funding grant from the National Lottery funded Northern Ireland Arts Council. £4000 in 2011 and £3400 last year. Without that money we would have been a massive failure and right now we don't know if our grant application will be successful this year. This price increase coupled with the reduced venue costs means we should just about be OK even if we don't get the funding. We are of course still applying for funding and if successful then we'll be able to greatly increase what we can do with our workshop programming, bring in additional guests and really make TitanCon even more awesome than before.
The second reason is because we want to increase our guest budget and attract more guests, and we're not just talking about more Game of Thrones cast and crew. We are proud of the great variety of programming we offer at TitanCon with science-fiction and fantasy literature, art, media, gaming and practical workshops. We really want more of everything and all the changes outlined above to the date, venue and price will allow us to do just that.

We hope you'll agree that these changes will ensure TitanCon's success this year and well into the future too. We have more news and announcements coming over the next few weeks and months.

Sounds great, when can I buy my ticket?

TitanCon 2013 Memberships will go on sale Saturday 13 April at 12.00 midday GMT.

The TitanCon Coach Tour tickets will go on sale around the end of May/beginning of June because we really need to see more of season 3 before we can finalise the route and our plans for the event, but rest assured we are working on it and we'll give you plenty of notice for when the tickets go on sale.

Despite the situation with the flag protests in Belfast over recent weeks the TitanCon Committee have been putting plans into place for TitanCon 2013 and we wholeheartedly still believe in putting on another great convention this year. However, we cannot ignore the uncertainty of current events and therefore have decided to delay ticket sales until the end of February.

We will be hoping that a resolution will be reached in the coming weeks which will facilitate a peaceful end to protests and a return to business as usual in Belfast. Towards the end of February the TitanCon committee will make a final decision about whether to go ahead with the convention or not depending on the situation. We most definitely do not want to cancel but we cannot rule out the possibility that we may have no other choice.

We want to make it clear to everyone that the situation in Belfast right now is not dangerous but it is disruptive.

At this time we are not financially committed, we have not paid any non-refundable deposits. We are in a position to make the financial commitment necessary to stage TitanCon if we judge it to be worth the risk to ourselves and the reputation of the convention. If and when the time comes that we do put our money down on a deposit and begin accepting ticket sales then this committee pledges to you that we will be 100% committed and we'll do everything we possibly can to run an enjoyable and successful TitanCon on Saturday 14 September 2013.

Yes this means that if we do go ahead then we will be one weekend earlier than the previous two years. The reason for this change is to avoid a clash with the Emmy Award Ceremony which will allow us to maximise our potential to bring you more Game of Thrones guests.

Please be patient with us over the next month. This is not an easy or simple decision. We will continue to make plans during this time as if we are going ahead so that we are all ready to go at the end of February. We have every hope that this is what happens. Our decision will be communicated clearly and fully as soon as we are ready to make it. Thank you.

GUEST ANNOUNCEMENTS

We are pleased to announce that Ron Donachie ~ Rodrik Cassel in Game of Thrones will be our guest at TitanCon 2012, though we make no promises about the possibility of Ron wearing the famous wig when you meet him!

Joining us from the Game of Thrones drapes department is Emma Andrews. She will be running a Dothraki Jewellery Workshop for us at TitanCon 2012. We're offering the opportunity to sit down with Emma and create your very own piece of Dothraki jewellery. All the materials will be provided for you including wooden beads and real horse hair from Emma's own horses to string it all together.

Comic artist Paul J Holden will be at TitanCon 2012 to lend a hand with Andy Luke's Magnificent One Day Comic Book Factory. TitanCon members can get involved with the challenge to write, draw and produce an exclusive convention comic book, with proceeds going to Action Cancer.

I'm sure everyone who was at TitanCon 2011 will recall Jo's performance during the Water Dancing workshop and the sword/axe fighting and Dothraki rap at Castle Ward during the Coach Tour on the Sunday. Johannah Playford will be back again this year for more of the same and this time we've given her the full guest treatment with a bio and everything.

Saturday night film entertainment: Strange Frame

Hajim, takes us on a psychedelic journey into love and music in a dystopian future. It describes itself as the first lesbian science fiction rock 'n roll animated film.

We're putting out a call for volunteers today. TitanCon cannot work without the assistance of good people willing to give up an hour or two of their time to help us run the convention. We need people to man the reception desk, stand door security, assist at panels, manage queues of people, be gophers and help out with the set up and tear down of the convention.

If this is your first TitanCon then you'll probably want to relax and enjoy it (although all help offered is gratefully received) but if you were with us last year then we'd be very grateful if you'd be willing to volunteer your time in some capacity during the day. It could mean missing out on an awesome panel but we'll try to schedule your shifts so you get to see the things you really want to see. The more volunteers we get the further we can spread the assignments around. If we get enough volunteers then each person will only need to do one or maybe two hours of work.

Announcing the brand new Game of Thrones coach tour, this time taking in the north coast of Northern Ireland and finishing up at Shane's Castle, the location of the Hand's Tourney from season one. We have hired a third coach this time around increasing the number of spaces available but we still expect to sell out quickly so make sure you book your seats as soon as possible to avoid disappointment!

Tickets are a little more expensive this year because of the longer bus journey and marquee hire for the feast. Tickets cost £38 + £2 Paypal transaction fee. We have 143 tickets available for purchase and we do expect them to sell out fairly quickly. We recommend going online within an hour or two of the tickets going on sale to guarantee your seat. If you wait a day or two then we may be sold out. Once all the seats are gone they are gone, there will be no opportunity for additional seats to become available.

TitanCon 2012 will take place on Saturday 22 September 2012 at the Europa Hotel, Belfast. Once again our primary focus will be Game of Thrones but we'll also be offering an interesting and diverse mix of SF/F literary, media and gaming programming as well.

Memberships go on sale at 12.00 midday GMT on Saturday 18 February 2012

As with TitanCon 2011 we won't be able to confirm the full line up of Game of Thrones guests until probably just a couple of weeks before the convention. The filming schedule can change on a week by week basis but as soon as we know who is in Belfast and available to attend TitanCon we will announce the names everywhere as loudly as we can. I assure you this is more aggravating for us than you can imagine but we are determined to do our best not to announce a name only to retract them later because they can no longer make it. We would hate to do that to you.

But we can confirm a few definite guests for you right now - Kristian Nairn (Hodor), Miltos Yerolemou (Syrio Forel) and Art Parkinson (Rickon Stark) will be with us again. Also coming back for a second year will be authors Ian McDonald, Peadar Ó Guilín and T.A. Moore. One new guest for 2012 is Aimee Richardson (Myrcella Baratheon) and we'll be announcing more guests over the coming months so stay tuned to the website and Twitter feed for news and announcements.

Fri 21 Sept 2012 - Drinks at McHughs

We'll be kicking off the weekend with a Friday evening event at McHughs Bar with readings from our author guests. This will be a FREE entry event open to the public and TitanCon members.

Sat 22 Sept 2012 - TitanCon

You can expect a full convention programme with discussion panels on Game of Thrones and SF/F literature in general, workshops, photo sessions, signing sessions, gaming and much more. In the evening we will be hosting another masquerade and we also have a few other surprises planned too, so stay tuned for news and announcements.

Sun 23 Sept 2012 - Game of Thrones Coach Tour

After the massive success of last year's coach tour we will of course be doing another one this year. We're still working on the details at the moment so alas we're not ready to start selling tickets yet - but we'll be alerting all TitanCon 2012 and 2011 members by email to announce when tickets are to go on sale. However, we can tell you that it will be a completely new tour visiting various season two locations along the north coast of Northern Ireland and also Shane's Castle, the location of the Hand's Tourney from season one, where we will be holding this year's feast.

Full membership = £15

Full membership costs just £15 but TitanCon 2011 members check your email for a special offer just for you guys. Get in touch if you haven't received an email from us and we'll resend.

Supporting memberships = £5

If you are not sure whether you can attend TitanCon 2012, or know you cannot, but still want to help make the convention a success then you can purchase a supporting membership for just £5. Supporting membership can be upgraded to full membership at any time by paying the difference in price. This is based on your initial purchase date so if you buy a supporting membership before 1 June 2012 you can upgrade for just £10 at any point up to the convention. Supporting memberships bought between 1 June 2012 and 1 September 2012 can be upgraded for £13 and after 1 September 2012 for £15.

Anyone who would like to make a more substantial donation is welcome to purchase multiple supporting memberships. We greatly appreciate anyone that supports us and we'll keep all our supporting members up to date with news and special offers for future TitanCons.

Special room rate offer for TitanCon 2012 members - Days Hotel

We are pleased to announce that we have arranged a special room rate offer for TitanCon 2012 members at Days Hotel. Days are holding 25 rooms for us from 21st September for 2 nights - 15 twin rooms and 10 double rooms. The rates are:

£60 bed and breakfast per room per night for single occupancy
£65 bed and breakfast per room per night for double occupancy

Volunteers

TitanCon would be impossible to run without the help of dedicated members willing to give up their time at the convention to volunteer doing the necessary jobs to keep everything running smoothly. We greatly appreciate anyone who would be willing to help with early morning set up, door security, reception and panel assistants during the day and also evening clear up. If you would be willing to give up an hour or two to help us run TitanCon 2012 please fill in a volunteer form and we'll get in touch with you.

This year we have a Volunteer Coordinator whose sole responsibility is to organise the volunteer work schedule.

Picking up signals from the ether, TitanCon is tuning into ghostly transmissions from the past with Wireless Mystery Theatre.

Wireless Mystery Theatre

Wireless Mystery Theatre recreate the in-studio excitement of the night, transporting the audience back to the Golden Age of radio, to be AWED! and AMAZED! as they present radio plays live on stage. You are offered a peek through the studio's perspex glass to watch the live music, the hand-cranked sound effects, the 'radio personalities', and the old-time commercials, all live before your very ears.

Wireless Mystery Theatre

Originally broadcast in 1941, this archive programme contains two of H.P. Lovecraft's most unsettling stories, The Dunwich Horror and The Music of Erich Zann.

TitanCon is thrilled to announe that this special performance by Wireless Mystery Theatre will begin at 9 pm during our evening party in the Europa Exhibition Hall.
